UCSD Department of Theatre and Dance

San Diego Union Tribune - GOOD TO GO This week's critics' picks: Creative tension Sunday, May 2, 2010 at 3:02 a.m. Controversy and conflict have roiled the UCSD campus lately, fueled by concerns over race relations and the rising cost of education. Controversy and conflict also happen to be crucial catalysts for art, and so on Friday, UCSD students and faculty will roll out a daylong festival of creative works, both responding to the troubles and offering a forum for further discussion. The “Arts in Action Festival: Real Art for Real Change” happens across campus from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. (with an “after party” until 10 p.m.) There’ll be “performance marches,” panel talks and all manner of other theater, spoken-word, visual-art and music events. All events are free and open to the public; for details, visit artsinaction.us. JAMES HEBERT
