May 3-May 7: Your Arts in Action Colleges Community Murals

All over YOUR college campus
Create YOUR art! Speak out for YOUR college!
Add YOUR voice to YOUR community’s mural!

Speak out for your college!
Canvas squares will be at each college for a community mural to be created by students and then collaged together for the UCSD Arts in Action mural.

TIME/PLACE:
Murals at each college from May 3-May 7, and assembled with the Arts In Action Mural by Mario Torero and Fernando Vossa at the
Weiss Theater 4-5:30 pm on May 7.


May 3-May 7: Arts in Action surprise performances and dance flash mobs

Be on the lookout for multiple surprise events that will be happening across the UCSD Campus, including arts in action dance flash mobs and site specific performance art. Tweet and upload what you discover at ucsdsmashtv.com


Friday, May 7th, 2010 • 10am - 10pm • Admission FREE

 

10 am - 2 pm: Arts in Action Across UCSD

Multiple events will be happening across the UCSD Campus, including lectures, play readings, site-specific performances and flash mob dances!

2 - 3:30 pm: Project Protest: Performance Marches

Four performance marches will invoke the tradition of arts activism creating change for Civil Rights, Women?s Rights, Gay Rights, and Chicano Rights. They will all culminate in a silent protest at the Silent Tree on Library Walk, and then process to the Mandell Weiss Theatre in the UCSD Theatre District.

3:50 pm: Gather, Dance and March In

All for One. One for All. West African Dance and Drumming

Is a racially themed party a performance?

What does "color-blind" mean to you? Are you "color-blind?"

How do you feel about the notion of "color-blind" casting?

What is the role of visual representation and comedy in perpetuating disparaging images of
women, people of color, gay people, poor people?

How can art be used to subvert racist, sexist, classist, homophobic representations?

Should art be ethically driven?

Is a protest an act of performance?

Discover multiple site-specific art actions and installations and
refresh with food from the taco truck!
